PEACE AND JUSTICE

SAINTS AELRED & HILDEGARD

SAINTS AELRED & HILDEGARD Saints AElred & Hildegard (A&H) Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Transgendered and Questioning Ministry became an official ministry of the Church of the Messiah in 1993. The ministry continues to look at expanding the group to include family and friends. We meet the third Sunday of every month at the homes or the churches of our members, for potluck dinners, for friendly conversation, evening prayer and to plan our participation in gay events.

PROJECT RUTH

PROJECT RUTH Project Ruth, named after the story in the Book of Ruth, is Messiah’s ministry to the homeless. Working together in action and prayer, we provide service and support to our homeless neighbors.

Our busiest time occurs on the 4th Sunday of the month, when we meet at 9:00am to assemble toiletry and hygiene bags, focusing especially on women. At 11:45am, we travel west a few blocks to Civic Center Plaza, where we deliver the bags to homeless men, women and families gathered for lunch provided by area faith and social justice organizations. On Christmas, we assemble and deliver backpacks or shoulder bags of essential items and a small gift.

HOPE NICARAGUA

HOPE NICARAGUA Church of the Messiah has been a partner with AMOS since our first mission trip to the small rural village of Cumaica Norte in January of 2012. That partnership continues with an annual donation to the work of AMOS and a mission trip to Nicaragua to work with AMOS every two years. AMOS Health and Hope (A Ministry Of Sharing) www.amoshealth.org is a Christian non-profit organization, managed by Dr. David and Dr. Laura Parajón, in rural Nicaragua. AMOS prioritizes the needs of vulnerable people in remote, rural areas of Nicaragua through a variety of programs using community-based methodologies. It has core values of a commitment to serve alongside those in need, to live out the Gospel through love in action, and to celebrate with local leaders as they work toward bringing peace, justice, health and education to their communities.

ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE Messiah’s Environmental Justice Ministry (EJM) supports sustainability efforts in our parish, our membership and our community by education and action on environmental issues.

BOOK AND MEDIA EXCHANGE

BOOK AND MEDIA EXCHANGE This is a yearly event at which parishioners bring their “like new” or “nearly new” books, CDs and DVDs and exchange them for items brought by others. Our goal is to bring excitement over books to Messiah and put books and quality media in the hands of many people.

MICAH’S WAY
(Affiliated Organization)

BOOK AND MEDIA EXCHANGE When the prophet Micah was asked what God wanted of him, he simply said, “Act justly, love tenderly, walk humbly with God.” Micah’s Way is not a religious organization. Nevertheless, they believe that their purpose is encapsulated in the context of this simple sentence. The mission of Micah’s Way is to provide Orange County’s impoverished families and individuals with a support system that responds to their immediate needs and helps them develop the necessary skills to become self-sufficient. Church of the Messiah has been a partner of Micah’s way for many years. Volunteers are welcome to come to our parish kitchen to prepare meals and clothing for those in need.
