PASTORAL CARE AND SPIRITUAL GROWTH

STEPHEN MINISTRY

STEPHEN MINISTRY The Stephen Ministers support parishioners through prayer, presence, and listening to those who are going through difficult times, such as grief, illness, or depression. The ministry is confidential. Referrals are made through the Rector and pastoral staff, or occasionally from parish members approaching a Stephen minister directly.

INTERCESSORY PRAYER

INTERCESSORY PRAYER This ministry meets in the Upper Room every Wednesday morning to pray for those on the parish prayer list. Each Sunday, after the Eucharist, a prayer minister is available in the back of the church to provide a confidential time of special prayers. All are welcome to join the group or have names or concerns placed on the prayer list.

CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER

We come together to practice Centering Prayer, a prayer form currently practiced by thousands of Christians all around the world. It is a simple and humble way of prayer. All are welcome.

WEDNESDAY’S WOMEN

WEDNESDAY’S WOMEN Wednesday’s Women is more than dinner and discussion, it has grown into a marvelous community of supportive and caring women with the gift of welcoming strangers. For a a woman new to Messiah, it’s a fine way to get to know us. We meet at the home of a parishioner for dinner at 6:00pm and by 7:30pm begin a discussion of a reading or topic for the evening. We always close with prayers for parishioners, family members, friends and particular concerns. By 9:15 we’ve cleaned up and are on our way.

MEN SEEKING GOD

MEN SEEKING GOD Men Seeking God focuses specifically on the spiritual life of our members, especially prayer and the ability to find God in our everyday lives. Our co-leader, Steve Bruce, is a trained spiritual director (as well as a teacher and mentor to spiritual directors-in-training). He has a great deal of experience in moving people deeper in their prayer lives. Prior to each meeting, a short reading is distributed at the parish coffee hour. The meeting itself begins with a pot-luck dinner which blends into a discussion of the reading, and then the discussion goes in whatever direction in wants. Finally, we go around the table and talk about what is going on in each of our lives.
