What is the Noah Project?
The Noah Project is a neighborhood learning center which provides students in grades 1-12 with after-school homework help, one-on-one tutoring, special classes, and enrichment activities in a safe environment. Special emphasis is given to improving basic reading and math skills and overall English-language proficiency.

Why is there a need for a center like this?
Recent statistics released by the California Department of Education indicate that the dropout rate in the Santa Ana Unified School District is now the highest in Orange County. The number of dropouts increased by more than 40% in the 1995-1996 school year alone. Santa Ana also has some of the most crowded classrooms in the County, and teachers are unable to provide the kind of intensive help many students need to stay in school and succeed in school.

Where is the Noah Project located?
The Noah Project is located at two sites in downtown Santa Ana. Classrooms and meeting facilities for students in grades 6-12 is located at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, 614 North Bush Street. Classrooms for children in grades 1-5 and space for enrichment and recreation activities for all students of all ages is located at St. Joseph's Catholic School, 608 Civic Center Drive East. Computer labs are available at both locates. The sites are just two blocks apart, making it possible for older students to move between the two locations.

How does the Center operate?
The learning center is open every afternoon, Monday through Friday. The hours are 3:00 - 6:30 pm, Monday through Thursday afternoons, and on Friday the center is open from 3:00 -5:00 pm Students in grades 1-12 are be able to come on a drop-in basis to get help with homework, use the computer, participate in individual and group academic activities, enjoy supervised recreation time, and create art projects.

Who staffs the Project?
The project is run by full and part-time staff who plan and supervise all academic and enrichment activities. Volunteers from churches, community organizations, and nearby schools and colleges provide homework and tutoring assistance both individually and in groups.

How is the Noah Project funded?
The Noah Project is funded through the efforts of T.H.I.N.K Together, a non-profit organization formed for the purpose of establishing learning centers throughout Orange County. T.H.I.N.K Together raises money from corporate sponsors and community organizations to place these after-school programs where they are needed most.
